Is Fire Force Good?

Have you watched Fire Force already? Have you read the manga yet? If you have not, you might want to watch it but currently have some second thoughts if it is worth your time. Been there, done that.

Fire Force is one of the must-watch anime in the Shonen category since release last July 2019. Since then, it was already decided that this anime will have a long way to go, with its great storyline and superb animation! Yes, this is definitely one anime that will not disappoint you!

Is the animation in Fire Force good?

Did you know:  The word “anime” originated from a French word animé’ which means “animated, lively”. It also shares origin with the English word “Animation”.

One of the keys to making a good anime is their visuals and animation. There are times that some anime are getting disregarded due to poorly animated scenes, making audiences feel disappointment.

To be honest, I myself had dropped some anime recommendations from friends, when I felt like it was not very entertaining to watch. Indeed, good animation makes it more fun and adds up “WOW factor”.

Fire Force was animated by David Production from Season one to two. They are the team who is behind the great animation of some popular anime series like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Monster Hunter Stories, and Cells at Work.

And they really seem to take their time because they gave the Fire Force justice! Since episode one, the anime adaptation of the manga has been one of the best I have watched so far!

Being a Shonen, and “Fire” fighters (well, including Fire Infernals) you can see a lot of Fight scenes on Fire Force. The angles, the bright color palettes, special effects, and combat scenes are at a different level compared to other Shonen animated series.

Fire Force animation is very HD, Smooth, CGI and almost 3-D. With this, we have a big YES on this series’ animation!

Is Fire Force romantic?

The Protagonist of this series is a 17-year-old boy who has pyrokinetic abilities. Shinra Kusakabe joined the Special Fire Force Company 8 and had a clear goal- to become a hero, save people from Spontaneous Human Combustion and to uncover the truth behind his family’s death.

He had a lot of good relationships and chemistry with women in the anime. He tends to blush whenever she finds someone pretty, but most of it was superficial.

One of the ships fans had is between Shinra and Iris. In the first episode of the anime, Shinra had saved Iris from a falling light. Iris was swept off her feet by Shinra, who by that time, is about to go to the headquarters for his supposed first day at the team.

After that, there are few interactions between them. Shinra seems to have a crush on Iris but they do not seem to have something deeper than that, plus the fact that Iris is a nun.

Another ship on Fire Force was between Shinra and Tamaki. This couple is most likely will end up together, as Shinra seems to be most interested with Tamaki. He always feels shy and red around her, and even offered to try her food. Their relationship is getting stronger throughout the series.

There are other “possible” ships in the anime. Though I can say that this series is not on the romantic side as the main character is refreshingly focused on his goals and if he will end up with one of the girls, it will not be on the center stage of the manga.

Is Fire force worth watching?

We all have our own preference when it comes to watching anime. That is why anime has been categorized to five: shonen, shojo, seinen, josei, and kodomomuke.

If you are into Shonen, Fire Force is perfect for you! You will see a lot of combat scenes and character development with the cast. And the manga gets darker as it goes.

The average rating of the anime based on is currently at 8.4, while in Rotten Tomatoes it is at 91%, for Audience Score. Not immensely high but is something that is always recommended for Shonen enthusiasts.

From the manga storyline, up to the animation, “Fire Force” is a topnotch. Though it may not be as popular as other anime as of now, but I am positive that this anime will get their biggest break soon!

Problems with Fire Force

Nothing’s perfect, as the saying goes. There is always room for improvement, and when it comes to Fire Force, we’ve got some problems to unravel.

First, and the most disappointing one would be Fan Services. Fan Service, if you haven’t heard of it yet, are scenes not necessary for the progression of the story but are intentionally added to please the audiences.

There is nothing wrong with that if it was done in moderation. Apparently, scenes like this were too much in Fire Force as there are times when the story gets serious and intense but then will end up in a comedic/sexual way. It ruins the moment of some important arcs.

To add up, the pacing seems off after the first two episodes. The next episodes seem to be out of place, and without proper continuity. The first arc was done too fast but after that, it gets better.

Atsushi Ōkubo, the author of the manga, explained that Fan services and change of pace are done in order to make the anime a bit lighter. But some reactions from anime enthusiasts disagrees, as too much Fan Service may bring the anime down.

Things to expect in the anime

Well, aside from lots of Fan Services, you should expect that:

  1. You will be seeing one of the best animation and combat scenes on an Anime
  2. You might wonder why the MC had a grin on his face all the time: He has a specific medical condition known as nervous laughter.
  3. You’ll crave for more: The manga has just been animated until Season 2. There is no announcement for the Third season yet. So, if you do not read the manga, you might get upset waiting.
  4. The plot is getting darker, and you might get overwhelmed.
  5. You are going to watch a traditional Shonen manga, done right. The plot of the anime seems like Attack on Titan, but of course, different types of villains.

Fire Force can be watched through Netflix, Crunchyroll, Hulu, and other streaming sites. So, what are you waiting for? Watch it now and join the hype!
