Jar Jar Binks is a character introduced in the prequel trilogy of Star Wars. He is not one of the characters that the fans love. However, Jar Jar Binks is a major character in Episode 1; thus, learning about his past could be important.
Jar Jar Binks is a Gungnan male military commander and politician. He was exiled from his home, Otoh Gunga (also known as Gungan City), by Boss Nass. The latter banished Jar Jar Binks because he crashed his heyblibber submarine.
Jar Jar Binks talks in a strange way – purposely done since the character was made for comic relief (the reason why he is unpopular.) And so, even if he explained in the movies why he was banished, you would not understand it.
Actually, he did that in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace during a conversation with Obi-Wan Kenobi. But the information we got from that is very little.
So, if you want the full story, be sure to continue reading.
What Caused Jar Jar Binks’ Banishment from Gungan City?
“Tis a long tale, buta small part wawdabe mesa…ooooh…aaaa…..clumsy,” said Jar Jar Binks. That is gibberish that no one can understand. Thankfully, Obi-Wan has translated that for the viewers. Apparently, Jar Jar Binks was banned because he was clumsy.
But clumsiness is surely not enough reason for someone to get thrown into exile. Even for Star Wars, that is going too far. So, jar Jar Binks must be involved in a crime.
Indeed, Jar Jar Binks did something terrible. Admittedly, he did not intentionally do it. But his clumsiness caused little accidents.
The said accidents caused significant issues. Jar Jar Binks flooded Boss Nass’ mansion and crashed the heyblibber – a 24 seater luxury submarine. The incident also caused damage to the city and embarrassed Boss Nass.
In response to what happened, Boss Nass banished Jar Jar Binks and sent him to the surface.
What are the “little accidents” that led to Jar Jar Binks’ exile?
Jar Jar Binks was from Otoh Gunga, an underwater city that lay beneath the Mid Rim planet of Naboo’s Lake Paonga. He served for Rugor Nass, boss of the Gungan people.
One day, Jar Jar Binks was assigned to prepare food for a party held by Boss Nass for the great and good of Otoh Gunga. He had to use a “gasser,” a large plasma-fired grill with a circular door.
Jar Jar Binks was accused of being clumsy. In a fit of pique, he kicked the door of the gasser. Unluckily, it got stuck.
Jar Jar Binks tried to fix it using a metal spatula. However, when he tried to pry the door open, the spatula broke. It dropped into the gasser’s mechanism.
That caused a build-up of plasma, eventually making the gasser explode. The explosion damaged the electrostatic bubble around the mansion and caused it to flood.
Jar Jar Binks realized that the flood would cause the mansion’s upper floor to collapse on Boss Nass’ heyblibber. He took it to himself to save it. But because he is panicking and naturally clumsy, he crashed it.
These “little accidents” caused Jar Jar Bink’s exile.
Is Jar Jar Bink Binks really Banished because he was an “incarnation of chaos?”
Fans who have not read the canonical explanation about Jar Jar Binks’ exile came with their own theories.
Someone said that Binks is an “incarnation of chaos.” And with training, he could be a formidable weapon. And so he was banished.
Again, this was a fan-made theory. It is not true.
Did Jar Jar Binks bring Darth Sidious to Gungan City and therefore was banished?
No. This is another fan theory.
Binks saying “Gungan no like outsiders,” sprouted their theory. They thought Binks befriended and brought Sheev Palpatine/Darth Sidious to Otoh Gunga before. Then things happened, and Jar Jar Binks’ clumsiness caused some accidents.
Therefore, he was sent to the surface, never to return.
Again, fan theories are not canon. So this is not the reason for his banishment,
Was Jar Jar Binks banished because he was a Force-sensitive Sith Lord himself?
Another theory builds on the previous one. They speculate that Jar Jar Binks is a Force-sensitive Sith Lord. According to the fan, Jar Jar Binks is Palpatine’s apprentice who will help bring down the Republic.
Since this theory is based on the previous one, which is not true, it is also not true.
Where did they explain the real reason behind Jar Jar Binks’ exile?
Star Wars told the story of Jar Jar Binks’ “little accidents” that led to his exile in Episode 1 Adventure gamebooks.
What was Jar Jar Binks’ punishment according to the “Nackombackie Law?”
According to the Nackombackie Law, Jar Jar Binks’ punishment is being pounded to death. However, he was banished instead since he had been a great help to Otoh Gunga, as Qui-Gon argued.
